about

A monographic CD, stories intertwined between multiple characters, the discovery of a new instrument, the centenary of a surrealist demiurge, in short one more adventure... And now I plunge back into the past where it all began: Pesaro, Italy, 1992.
At the X World Saxophone Congress, I had in mind my piece Luce del Fuoco for 50 saxophones, which I directed in the famous theater built by Rossini.
The next day, I came across the installation of Martin Hurni, Swiss inventor, who introduced me to the practice of his new instrument: the syntophone.
From the outset, I was seduced by this sax-midi that finally looked like a saxophone. Jean-Michel Goury passed by at the moment when I was experiencing my first cries on this synthophone. As enthusiastic as I was, Jean-Michel suggested that I consider a collaboration aimed at taming this new tool together within an electroacoustic chamber music project.
Thus in born, with the financial assistance of Selmer, the ensemble Polyfolia bringing together saxophones, flutes, piano and sampler piloted by the synthophone.
With the desire to open the project beyond the musical universe, I invited Daniel Crumb to the group to pay tribute to the poet Antonin Artaud. Having participated in many collaborations with Daniel and knowing his passion for "vociferous" texts, I called on his talents as a writer and actor.
The following three texts are the result of an automatic writing game made by Daniel Crumb with headphones in his ears.
These texts do not illustrate the music but make a free association of non-restrictive ideas. Overall, my aesthetic leads me to baroque situations where very ornate lines emerge bordering on improvisation with a primitive latent pulsation.
It is this proliferation in the poetic and musical gesture that characterizes the very nature of this CD.
Rideau de feu (in the sense of an initiatory rite) forced all participants to go beyond writing in order to find the freshness and ferocity of a constructed collective improvisation.
As for the recording of works, we have always favoured live for pieces in one piece and live for others. The catches followed concerts performed in 1995 in Boulogne Billancourt, Guéret, Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy (France). The studio sessions were held in Angoulême (Les Plateaux) and Guéret (National School of Music).
