about

During the last decade, the color scale of the saxophone has been considerably enlarged. The discoveries of instrumental researchers, composers as well as improvisers have helped turn the saxophone into a multi-lingual tool.

Jean-Michel Goury and Serge Bertocchi show with brio and ease their mastery of the grammar of new music: the listener will follow with enthusiasm the evolving phases, the initiation route of the couple-duo. Conceived as a rainbow, this record offers us a world of colors unheard of, avoiding all redundancies
.
In the form of an imperfect introduction, I would like to share some flash impressions following my first hearings of theses pieces.

Far from keeping Contemporary Music (or the saxophone itself) in an ivory tower, our goal is actually to reach a larger audience who will find here a common sensibility with all styles of music. This record contains a cycle that follows a path from light to darkness. Blinding sun in Adria where reflections are dancing on the surface of the sea, clarity in Dialodia, gloriousness in Knabenduett. The separation of the duo in Caccia opens the gap where Murasaki no fuchi (violet abysses) leads us. After New York docks at dusk, evoked at the end of Traits, Oxydes swallows us down to the underground world, as Quartz, which goes further, as the piece is played in obscurity. Hardly known, because seldom played (this program contains 5 phonographic premieres), the repertoire for 2 saxophonists shows here its richness and vitality.
